REFLEX ZONES
The parasympathetic nerve – also called the calming or recovery nerve- dictates the intended healthy state of our vegetative nervous system. The sympathetic nerve enables our body to reach a state of emergency if
threatened. The bodies emergency systems are activated. Numerous vegetative functions are being lowered to
a minimum in order to focus all physical resources toward the efforts of either Fight or Flight.
Throughout human evolution this reflex proved live saving and existential, for example as a reaction to the
sight of a saber-toothed tiger.
Yet for managing and coping with the challenges of our modern daily life, this reflex proves to be of no
particular use and even counterproductive. During longer strenuous periods of time or in case of long term
psychological duress- what was intended to be a exceptional state becomes a permanent one.
The physical and psychological stress under which the sympathetic nervous system enables us to survive a
potentially threatening situation also greatly affects our digestion alongside the flow of lymph, and our abilities to detox and self-heal.
Physical manifestations are plenty and range from auto-immune deficiencies, malfunction of the thyroid
gland, problems of digestion, increase in body weight, migraines and Tinnitus up to a permanent fatigue
syndrome and premature aging.
